Original Passport submission for Citizenship

Hi All,

Due to some technical glitch I had to apply for UK citizenship via the standard service and was unable to avail the document check service with Sopra Steria. I have submitted the online application and have paid the fees of 1330 online - for the standard service. I have received the email for the biometric scan etc with the post office.

As per my understanding, I need to submit my original passport and BRP card along with other documents. This means I will not be able to travel should there be any business meeting outside of the UK.

My query -

1. Would passport copies work instead of original passport.

2. If not, what is the typical timeline for the UKBA to return the original documents? Is it within weeks or till they declare the final decision on my application.

You need to send originals.

Anywhere between 10 and 40 days usually if you request them back. If you don't request them and just wait, you get them back shortly before or after your decision letter.
