British passport for child-Marriage certificate

Post by vasann » Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:39 pm

Hi all,

I got ILR in february 2019.I have applied for ILR in september 2018. At the same time ,I have applied FLR-M application for my wife.Our marriage certificate is with the home office.My wife did not get the biometrics letter yet.
My child is born in uk in september 2018.I would like to apply for British passport for my child.
As we do not have the marriage certificate with us ,can we put photocopy of marriage certificate and a covering letter explaining the same.Will they accept my child's application.

Could anyone please give your suggestions.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Your child doesn't qualify to apply for a British passport directly as the child is not British.

You have to register the child as British on form MN1 first, costs £1022. This is separate to the eventual passport application.

A marriage cert is not required but if you want to submit a copy and an explanation, this should be fine.

Hi CR001,
Respectfully, I have to mention this seems to be incorrect.
During MN1 application, one of the mandatory documents that is required to be submitted is 'marriage registration certificate of applicant's parents'. I have applied for my newborn via MN1 and it explicitly states this in the documents required section and believe this would be the case for the OP. (My case history is similar to that of OP's)

@vasann
If you are applying online via the new UKVACS system, you only need to upload the copy of marriage registration certificate to the partner's website. You could also include a cover letter explaining that HO has the original.
