Help with MN1 application form for baby

Post by Girijadash » Thu Mar 29, 2018 12:25 am

Hi,
I am an indian citizen who recently got ILR. I am applying for British citizenship for my baby who is 5 months old. As we did not need to travel since he is born, I have not made any passport or made any immigration application for him. I have the following queries for the MN1 application form which I am filling for his application.

1) Section 1.3 - State if and when the child was given indefinite leave to remain - should this be blank?
2) Section 1.9 - Present nationality - should this be blank?
3) Section 2.1 - If the child is resident in the united kingdom or a british overseas territory, give date and place of first arrival - should this be his birth date as he is born in uk and never traveled?
4) 2.2 - Address for last 5 years - should this be my home address?
5)section 3, 4 - not applicable?
6) For professional referee - can this be the GP where he is registered?

Also, I am planning to submit the following documents
1) My and my wife's passport
2) My and my wife's BRP for ILR
3) Marriage certificate
4) Cheque for payment
5) His full birth cerificate
6) His one photograph

Please let me know if this list is fine or anything else is required.
Thanks, your help will be much appreciated.

Perhaps leave blank, if child is not Indian.

Thanks a lot. I am submitting through NCS. Do I need to attach any pre-paid envelope?

Help with professional referee on MN1

Post by Girijadash » Tue Apr 10, 2018 11:46 pm

Hi,
I am applying for naturalization of my 6th month old baby. Both mom and me are on ILR.
For the professional referee, the following is mentioned.
One referee should be a professional who has engaged with the child in a
professional capacity, such as a teacher, health visitor, social worker or minister of
religion.

I have approached the health visitor and GP and both have turned me down.
Could you please advise what other options do I have?
Also, is there a link to the professionals list who can sign the form?
I read somewhere in Gov.Uk website that doctors can sign but could not find it anymore. My GP is asking for it as the form does not mention doctor. Any pointers to the document/link will be highly appreciated.

Your baby is British citizen if she was born in the UK when either you or your wife is ILR. No need to apply naturalisation.

If your baby was born in the UK before you or your wife are ILR, as now you have ILR, you can register her as British citizen but not naturalisation.

What above valid only if your baby born in the UK!

@Girijadash : I am in a similar position as you were last year. I got my ILR on Jan 2019 and trying to apply for my 2.5 year old son British citizenship who was born in UK. I am kind of stuck with the professional refree part of the application mentioned below.

"One referee should be a professional who has engaged with the child in a
professional capacity, such as a teacher, health visitor, social worker or minister of
religion."

He is yet to go school so getting reference from school teacher is not an option. GP and Health visitor turned me down and i dont know a social worker or minister of religion. I believe this was your situation as well and could you please help me by sharing what did you do in this case ?

@All : Please let me know if you know any other options in getting a professional reference. I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hi Mouse123,

One of my Family Friend who is a UK GP signed the first reference since i am not able to get reference from my registered GP & other professionals mentioned . I have applied and waiting for the decision though. Few of my friends mentioned they have done similar thing in the past and had no issues as long as the referee is a registered professional (GP / Pharmacist / Accountant etc) with UK government body. Hope this information helps. Thanks.

Hi,

Home Office directed me to a document titled 'Nationality-policy-general-information-all-British-nationals-v1.0EXT'
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... .0EXT.pdf
, from which I found this section
'For child applicants at least one of the referees must be a person who has dealt with
the child in a professional role such as a teacher, doctor, health visitor or social
worker. Where a child cannot provide a referee who has dealt with them in a
professional capacity and has provided documents to show that they have attempted
to do so, you can accept 2 referees who meet the criteria for referees on adult
applications.'
This could be a huge relief to many of us who are struggling in finding a professional person.
