ILR and English test

hi dear
any one please help my passport is with home office in pending application and i never recved biometric card in UK during my stay as i got visa from pakistan
now i have to pass ielts for ILR and apprently 1 needs orignal passport for the test is that right or copy of passport be enough ?

They return your passport to sit an exam.
