Hi
I hope all of you are well.
Firstly apologies if i am repeating or asking in wrong group as i am not an expert on this.
I hope the experts on this forum can help me with the below queries about spouse visa extension and help me through this new visa process. My wife came to UK on 7th May 2016 with visa expiring on 31st Jan 2019
1. when is the earliest i can apply for her visa extension? can i apply before 8th Jan 2019 to avoid the increase of the IHS surcharge? What would be considered an application date in this case and when can i pay IHS?
2. should i be applying online or through post, if i apply online, do i still need to fill in the form FLR(M).
3. what documents are required? i do not have a tenancy agreement or bill on my/wife's name since i live in a sharing, would that be a problem? i do have a joint bank account and some other posts for same addresses for both of us individually.
4. on the whole can someone guide me through the new visa application process, it will be highly helpful and appreciated as i feel lost with this new online system.
Thank you in advance for your kind help.
Regards,

I believe you can apply for the extension at any time you wish however any time over 28 days would not be added to your extension. This could result in you needing another extension before reaching 5 years in total, when you can apply for ILR.
So if you apply around 4 January 2019, you would be within 28 days and also save on the increased IHS fee!
For the extension I believe you pay 2 x £200 as opposed to 2 x £300 when you first applied for the visa as that was for more than 2.5 years.
Search the forum there are plenty of good guidelines and information about how to apply for FLR and what to include etc.
I’m sure the experts can correct the above if any errors.

1. Within 28 days of reaching 30 months residence. If she arrived in the UK on 7th May 2016, she could have already applied for an extension around 7th November. Paying the iHS is part of the online application process.

2. Online and yes, it is still FLR(M).
3. The process will tell you what you need. See also page 63/64 of the archived paper form and guidance notes, link below, for what HO expects to see.

hi CR001
Thanks so much for your great help as usual.
i wish i had known earlier that i could apply after 7th November but its never too late so will complete the online application within coming week, not sure how long it takes though.
Just to double confirm the date of application will be the date i complete the online application, correct?
do i still need to provide my wife's and my passport size photographs or has this been converted to biometric only.
Regards,

Hi All
i have finally submitted my application, i did realise that the online form is not same as usual form as it has some different questions.
In any case, i only got an appointment option of Thursday 17th Jan at East Ham so i took it.
My question is if i do not upload the documents myself, will i be charged at the East Ham centre to do so or is it included in the booking charges i paid?
Also please advise if i need to take Passport sized photographs of myself and wife to the appointment along with printed copy of application form?
Any help/advise will be highly appreciated.
Kind Regards,

You must have received auto acknowledgement of the application which along with following link can show to your employer where they can enquire about your right of work straight from UKVI:

Hi Seagul
Thanks so much for your kind reply.
I am actually more worried now since we never received any acknowledgement through email or post.
The only emails we received were for saved application(since i didnt finishi it one go), payment confirmation for visa fees and payment confirmation for IHS and lastly emails form UKVCAS for appointment booking and confirmation etc.
Sorry for my ignorance but is the payment confirmation email the acknowledgment or does applicants get another email confirming receipt of applciation and other details etc.?
Kindly let me know as we are much worried now.

You can show these payment and appointment confirmations to your employer as an evidence that you have actually applied visa extension.

Hi Seagul, I recently attended my FLR M extension appointment. My question is do they send an email or any communication / acknowledgement after the appointment to indicate whether they have started working on my case ? Would be great if someone could clarify please. Thanks

According to member's experiences they don't send any acknowledgement letter anymore.
