English Language requirement for Naturalisation

Post by crazyvish » Fri Jul 05, 2019 7:40 am

Hi,

Is application for Naturalisation and British Citizenship classed as the same?

I am a permanent resident in the UK and have been for the past 7 years. I have now decided to apply for citizenship. One of the requirements I see is English Language proficiency. The life in UK test I took in the past is the older version.

Can I write the new version of the 'Life in UK' test and satisfy the English Language requirement for my Naturalisation application?

I do have a Bachelor's degree from India taught in English 12yrs ago. The college has since been out of administartion and I am having difficulty proving that the degree was indeed taught in English. I do understand that I can write a test like IELTS but is costing me about £150 where is Life in UK is only £50, hence my question :)

Thanks.

It's the same thing. You apply to naturalised as a British citizen.

You need liuk test AND English B1 test. It is not a case that liuk can be used for English too,you need both.

Your old liuk is fine, they don't expire.

Your degree would need naric red route assessment for English and comparable to UK degree which in your case might be difficult.

From the AN guidance:

Acceptable qualifications
We will only accept an English language qualification that is on the Home
Office’s list of approved tests as evidence that you have met the requirement to
hold a B1 level English qualification. This must be taken at a Home Office approved
test centre.
The list of recognised tests can be found on the gov.uk website:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... uage-tests.
