Child referee help!

Post by husseinfatal » Thu Jul 25, 2019 3:55 pm

Hi all,

Need some urgent advice.

My two children arrived in May 2016, so just over 3 years ago.

They have just been given ILR, so were looking to get citizenship done ASAP.

We took the documents for the referral to the dentist, who was initially happy to oblige to sign the form, but now she says she has only known the children for 2.5 years (from date of appoitment) so wont sign it.

That leaves me with nowhere to go! The schools have broken up and i cant find anyone to help. I emailed his teacher and he said he was out of the country on holiday and likely no one else woudl want to sign it if i could get hold of them anyway.

If i asked the dentist to write on the file she has known the children for 2.5 years, and i wrtie a cover note that that was the first time only the kids came into contact with a professional.would that be ok?

How old are the children??

There is no 3 year limit of knowing a child vigorously enforced. The referee needs to be a professional and engaged with the child.

Children are 15 & 17.

Am checking with the dentist if they can add on there known for only 2.5 years, and write a cover note.

My daughter (17) worked for my boss for 2 weeks work experience and knows both children for 3 years. She is the referee for my wife, so im thinking whether i should try and add a third referee to make up the 6 months im missing.

The kids have only been here 3 months and 2 years. Had i known all of this i would have booked a dentist appointment straight away so they have the 3 years by the time we apply for citizenship!

You cannot add a third referee for goodness sake.

If the dentist won't sign for the 17 year old, then ask anyone else who is a professional and knows her for as long as they have been in the UK. Not sure if you mistyped the '3 months and 2 years' as it doesn't make sense.

Meant 3 years and 2 months.

There is no one else in that category who knows them as long, if i had one i would used them.

I just found this note on a home office guide:
For child applicants at least one of the referees must be a person who has dealt with
the child in a professional role such as a teacher, doctor, health visitor or social
worker. Where a child cannot provide a referee who has dealt with them in a
professional capacity and has provided documents to show that they have attempted
to do so, you can accept 2 referees who meet the criteria for referees on adult
applications.
So i guess i go with the same referee as the mum also applying, and upload the emails to show that dentist wouldnt sign the form as known only two and a half years.

Parental consent for child British citizenship query

Post by husseinfatal » Mon Aug 19, 2019 12:43 pm

Hi All,

Have everything uploaded now to UKVAS ready for our Croydon appointment, but just one query:
A letter of consent from Mr **************
parent(s) or legal guardian(s)

The letter must:
give their full names and addresses
say that they agree to let you apply for a
British citizenship

If you have more than one parent or legal
guardian, they must both sign the letter and
confirm that they agree to what it says. If you
only have one parent or legal guardian they
must explain why the other parent is unable to
consent e.g. whereabouts unknown, no
contact since MM/YYYY.
Do i have to write the form based on the child asking for permission, or for the parent to grant permission?

I'm confused as the heading states it as a letter of consent from the parents, but the later wording makes it look like the child should be asking, and the parent just signs it to agree to it.

The children are 17 & 15 (2 applications).
