Uk Ancestry Visa extension

Post by surprise23 » Tue May 15, 2018 10:46 am

Hi all,

I am an Australian living in the UK and have just completed the process to extend my UK ancestry visa. It is coming up to expire but I have only lived in the UK for 4 year 3 months, less than the required 5 year mark to apply for ILR. So I have extended the visa for another 5 years.
Process was simple enough and took 7 weeks total to get my passport back to me. If anyone has any questions feel free to reply and I can hopefully help!

Hello. I know this is a few months old now. My partner and I (Australians) are looking to renew an ancestry visa. Hopefully you can answer a quick question for us.
Did you have to supply the documentation to prove your UK ancestry links?
We are wondering if we need to get all the documents we used the first time around posted over to do it again! Thanks so much in advance.

Hi! Yes, you have to provide all the originals of the supporting documentation again. Birth certificates mainly, and any relevant marriage certs. Plus your own current passport!

Hi guys, I'm so glad I saw this post as I reckon you just might be able to help!

Currently in the process of applying for my partner's ancestry visa extension. I'm a Brit, she's an Aussie.

She's already on a 5 year ancestry visa which is due to expire in July 2019. We are both working full-time, happily living in London with no fixed term plans to leave, however she can't apply for ILR due to spending more than 180 days out of the country, which means we need to extend her ancestry visa.

We always knew it would come at a cost, but with the surcharge we're looking at over 3000 pounds? Is that right? It was only just over a 1000 a few years ago.

I'm wondering if we're submitting the wrong 'visa route' when calculating our costs? Can someone advise or help us?

Cheers all! x

That sounds about correct. The immigration fee for a five year Ancestry visa is £1033 & the IHS for a five year visa would be £2000.

The IHS doubled from £200 to £400 per year earlier this year. And in the past few years, immigration fees have increased at the rate of 20-25% every year in the past 3-4 years.

Yes unfortunately those fees sound right. I renewed my U.K. Ancestry visa in March 2018 and it was £1000 for visa fee, and £1000 for the IHS. I knew the fees were going to go up in april, can’t believe the IHS has doubled! Crazy. But I suppose worth it. I had to renew my visa due to being out of the country for more than 180 days so unfortunately it’s the only way!

Hi there,

i hope this thread is still open!! Does anyone know what kind of timeframe i need to extend my VISA in? My current VISA expires in June 2020 but i want to extend now if possible. Is there a timeline you need to work with? The Home Office website gives no indication

Thank you!

You can extend at any time as it will be a 5 year extension from date of approval of extension irrespective of when you apply.
