Hi,
I've been researching visas for myself and my partner. We had looked at registering our intent to form a civil partnership and complete a family visa however, when I contacted the Home Office they said that wasn't possible.
We got together in 2016 and I came to the UK in 2018 on theTier 5 Youth Mobility Visa. Apparently, I can't switch as a proposed civil partner from within the UK and would have to return home and leave my job here to go that route.
The lady I spoke with advised we could apply under the FLR M application as we've lived together for 2 years. I've read some very conflicting details about this because technically we've not lived together 2 years yet.
My visa started 20 Apr 2018 and I entered the country the 24 Apr 2018. I lived with my boyfriend immediately but our lease signed by our landlady shows 1 May 2018. Most mail received is in May while I was setting up my Nin and banking. My visa will end 20 Apr 2020 so this doesn't quite get us to 2 years and I fear we'd be denied. The lady at the home office advised to just write a cover letter explaining but that seems a bit too easy and really not sure if that will really hold up when they review our case.
This whole process is so confusing because all I've read is that you can't apply until you've already lived together 2 years not before but then I'm being told it's no problem. It's a lot of money to put on a maybe and I'm wondering if it's better I return home and apply as a proposed civil partnership.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
