Proof for English Language Skill

Post by narendc » Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:44 pm

Hi Everyone,
I'm planning to apply for Tier 1 Highly Skilled Worker category and I believe I have all the supporting documents except for 'English Language Skill'. In the Points Based Calculator, under 'Qualifications' section, my qualification with my university name is listed in the database (in the drop down list). Also, when I move on to 'English Language Skill' section, I can easily see the selected qualification, enabling me to SELECT and proceed further. Now, do I need to provide any proof for the 'English Language Skill", either
1)By getting a letter from my University.
2)Or a 'Letter of Comparability' from NARIC?
Please advise me on this.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards,
Naren

Hi I have a related question, I hope you wont mind answering. I have MSc IT from Loughborough University (current name) in UK from the time when it was known as Loughborough University of Technology. The university (as Loughborough University) and the degree is on the points based calculator. I have specified that as my English language proof in my application but have now realised that the degree and the transcript both refer to the university as Loughborough University of Technology. I have already dispatched my application and am worried about it. I will appreciate on comments as to what should I expect as an outcome.

Regards OB 40.

Hi,

The transcript is a doc which details all the semester subjects and marks. Also the final %age/CGPA (as applicable).

Transcripts issued by many Univs have a brief (on the back page) of how CPGA is calculated. The meaning of grades, language etc. I dont exactly remember whether giving both is mandatory for claiming points for english, would advise you to check on the UKBA website.

Also if you dont have a transcript, its good to mention the same in ur cover letter stating that the Univ does not issue have.

Other members please give inputs on the above.

Best of Luck,
Regards,
Amit

Dont worry, as ur Univ is in UK i would expect the BHC to have a better idea of the same. Also slight variations in the name have not caused a problem for me (my name had variations on various docs submitted). Ur case is not exactly the same, but i expect BHC to look only for the key words of the Univ.

Worst case scenario, if ur application is refused for this reason u shall definetly be cleared in the admin review. All you will have to do is highlight this fact.

Also i wonder whether the Case Officer would ponder much over giving you points for English. I say so becasue u have a degree from UK and they are not questioning their own standard of english .... :)

Hello,
Thanks Ankit.

I now have a letter from my University for english language skill proof. But my university doesn't provide my name on the letter but only the Roll.No. Would this be still valid?

Kind Regards,
Naren

Where does the policy guidance state that such letter(s) from University / college are valid evidence for English Language requirements?

Read policy guidance *carefully*.
