Application success but what now? (border entry)

Post by petenz » Mon Dec 22, 2008 3:00 am

I received my passport and document back this morning with the visa all stamped into my passport.

However, I received no guidance as to what I need to show at customs when I arrive or anything like that.

I've heard from others that they were stopped and grilled by customs, asked to provide bank statements, etc, again - is this the case? What should I have on me as I try to enter the country?

All rumours... Immigration will check if u have breached any immigration rules in the past, whether the entrant has any terror links or whether there is any significant change in your circumstances for eg: a conviction between date of application and date of arrival. All these checks happen at the back-end and u will be greeted with a smile if u do not fall under any of these and do not carry any banned items, then walk with ur head high. Pl do refer to UK border agency website on what u can carry and what not.... I am still wondering what else do anyone need apart fron visa? The guidelines are comphrensive and if u dont find something , for God's sake dont ask for it!!!

To clarify: I'm only referring to documents I may need, e.g. bank statements. Nothing to do with items that can/cannot be brought into the country :)

I am sure you asked what to show the customs and u did not ask what to show immigration. They both are different from each other.... Carry all ur docs which u submitted with visa application. That would suffice.

Oh right, sorry... Yeah I meant immigration then :)

So nothing more than what I submitted with my application? No UK bank accounts or anything like that. Cool, cheers :)

Thats why they say there is a lot of money to be made in immigration advice and practice ;)

If you have a UK account there is no harm in carrying details with you. But if you are coming to the country for the first time no one expects you to have an account with a UK bank.
