Sorry, I actually forgot that I had asked the same question before. I just had too many things in my head at that time. sorry again. Anyway, I have posted the original passports to HMRC, I used a special delivery, and I also appended a return envelope (special delivery) and attached a letter asking the HMRC to use this return envelope. I received my passports after a week. All is good. I highly recommend sending the original passports as asked by the HMRC.
thanks

Hi
I am applying for child benefit for my kids who were born abroad. As such, I am now requested to send original birth certificates and passports of my kids to HMRC to proceed with my application.
I am trying to avoid sending original documents. I asked the job center, they said the can check the documents and give me certified copies (certified by the job centre) which I can send.
I am a bit skeptical whether this would be acceptable especially since the child benefit application clearly states that I have to send original documents. What do you think?
thanks
Not sure why you think asking the same question a week after would change the advise already given?
