UK Visa extension

Post by vnsarvind » Sun Nov 09, 2025 9:00 pm

I hold valid Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). My wife and elder son are dependants on my visa and will become eligible for ILR in July 2026. Their current Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) expire on 5 March 2026.

Their visa history is as follows:

June 2016 – May 2017: one-year short-term visa

July 2017 – July 2021: long-term visa (note: June 2017 was spent outside UK)

July 2021 – March 2026: dependent on my ILR

My younger son is a British citizen.

Questions:

Since their BRPs expire on 5 March 2026 but their ILR eligibility is in July 2026, can I apply for ILR for my wife and elder son now (November 2025)?

What options are available to avoid paying visa fees and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for the period from March 2026 to July 2026?
