New UK entry rules

Post by SwiftDB4 » Tue Jan 20, 2026 5:42 pm

I was approved for British citizenship in Nov. 2025. Still awaiting invitation for ceremony from San Francisco British consulate. We have a trip booked to the UK in April. My understanding is British citizens must now enter Britain on a British passport. However am I not a British citizen until the official ceremony and therefore can enter Britain on my US passport with ETA?

Refer to this sticky topic:
changes-to-requirements-for-british-dua ... 58932.html

Until you are British you travel with your US passport plus ETA.

After you are British it has to be a British passport or your US passport with a Right of Abode endorsement from UKVI (meaning like a visa saying you are British). Cost = £500!
