Query about applying child's(UK born) MN1 online form

Post by Rashi1990 » Wed Apr 22, 2026 12:22 pm

Dear Admin,

Can you please guide which form I need to use for registering my child (7 year old) born in the UK with Indian passport who is currently residing here on dependant visa. The child has been residing here continuously since birth. Recently one of the parent has got UK settled status(ILR). Other parent is still on dependant visa and will be eligible to apply for ILR in couple of months. Both the parents hold Indian passports too.

We want to apply this ourselves , So can you please guide which form or section we need to fill. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Use form MN1. 1(3) is what applies for your scenario.

Thank you.
I have another query on the Referee,

"At least one of the referees must be a person who has dealt with the child in a professional
role such as a teacher, doctor, health visitor or social worker."

Can we ask the school to help provide as a referee since he has been in school for last 3 years?
I can get one referee who is a neighbour but I am struggling to think will the class teacher will provide their passport etc details as a Referee

If the teacher is not helpful then you may get someone who would be acceptable as a referee for an adult (a professional person). UKVI are aware of this issue with referees. Include a note explaining.

Refer to the list of acceptable professions: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... d-guidance

Thank you for your reply. When you say acceptable as a referee for an adult? can I get a referee for either one of the parent who is professional? Work colleagues?

In the list you shared I checked - engineer (with professional qualifications), Can we get a software engineer/ IT worker with Bachelors ? Because we work in IT and have only this profession acquaintances?

Yes - as long as they know the child - your relationship with the person isn't relevant.

What they mean by profession is someone who is a member of a professional body, for example a qualified accountant is normally a member of one of the accounting bodies, for which they needed to sit exams. I think there's a professional body for IT people.
