Self-employment tax documents for citizenship question

Post by benth » Mon May 18, 2026 6:37 pm

Hi everyone, I’m about to apply for citizenship after ILR through the 5-year spouse route, and I have a question about the documents required for self-employed applicants.

The document checklist asks for:

“Mr XXXX’s most recent tax year account statement and corresponding HMRC tax return as proof of self-employment.”

Does anyone know exactly which documents these refer to?

I have SA302 (tax calculation) and tax year overview. I also have SA100 tax return. Though when I downloaded the SA100 from the system, it says on the document 'Copy only. Do not send to HMRC.'

Could anyone let me know which document is the correct one to upload for this requirement?

Many thanks for your help.

Upload both documents - should be sufficient. You are uploading those to UKVI, so HMRC message is not relevant.
