Child benefit disallowed application and Ilr

Post by Lamri » Sun May 31, 2026 8:08 pm

I mistakenly applied for Child Benefit but realised within a couple of days I was not eligible and contacted HMRC to cancel it. The claim was disallowed and no money was ever received ( not sure if it was disallowed before or after I called them) but I have never received any funds and it has been disallowed.

ILR form asks exactly:

In my ILR application, there is a question:

"Do you or anyone else who is part of this application receive any public funds?"

The guidance includes things like Child Benefit, Housing Benefit, etc

Since no payment was ever made, I'm answering No.

Do I need to mention this cancelled application ona cover letter just to disclose the incident or is it irrelevant since nothing was actually received. I guess I just want to be on the safe side and might be overthinking it.

Many thanks

You do not need to do anything as you did not get any benefits

Global talent finance evidence for ILR

Post by Lamri » Tue Jun 02, 2026 5:38 pm

Hi everyone,
I’m preparing my ILR application under the Global Talent route (endorsed funder), after three years on UKRI endorsement where I was endorsed for doing a two years knowledge Transfer Partnership and my expert field is Engineering. I’d really appreciate some guidance on “evidence of previous earnings” and “evidence of earnings in my expert field.”

My situation

I worked:

2 years as a KTP Associate
11 months as an Engineer (Same company from the KTP)
Currently 1 month another company, permanent contract as data scientist.

Most of my documents are electronic copies (PDF payslips, letters, etc.)

Evidence of previous earnings I can provide
KTP (University employee)

Last 3 months of payslips
Employment letter confirming role and dates
1 Bank statement (can provide more if required)
P60s for the relevant tax years
Note: University can only issue a standard employment letter

1st company (Engineer role)

Last 3 months of payslips
Letter from employer on company headed paper confirming:

employment
salary
work in my expert field

Signed by director
1 Bank statement (can add more if required)
P60 (if applicable for the tax year worked)

2nd company (current role)

1 payslip
Employment letter confirming I am currently employed and expected to continue

Evidence that earnings were in my expert field

KTP:

Official employment letter (no explicit mention of field)
Additional letter from line manager confirming work in my expert field (not on headed paper)
Note: my Global Talent endorsement was based on this KTP role and the KTO role name is Iot Enginner

1st Company : Letter on headed paper confirming role + salary + expert field (the headed letter is just a normal document with company logo on top but signed by the director)

2nd company : Employment letter confirming role and start date (field not explicitly detailed)

My question

Is this combination of documents sufficient for “evidence of previous earnings”?

There is no specific earning requirement for ILR under Global Talent Visa route

There is no specific requirement and there is no specific document that needs to be produced. Provide whatever you have

Hi Zimba,
Many thanks for your reply
This is though what they require from the application:

Code: Select all

. Evidence of previous earnings

Please tick the relevant boxes to confirm all documents being sent as evidence of previous earnings claimed

You can select more than one option.

If your payslips are copies, these need to be accompanied by a letter from your employer on company headed paper confirming your earnings.

Personal bank statements showing payments made to you from your employer or a limited company of which you are a director Official tax documents from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) or an employer showing earnings on which you paid tax or will pay in a tax year

Dividend vouchers showing the amount of money paid to you from a company, including both gross and net dividends paid

Letter from a regulated UK accountant giving

a breakdown of salary, dividends, tax credits

and dates of net pa ents earned

Company or business financial accounts

showing the net profit of a company or

business

Other (if other please specify)

]

For the field of expertise evidence, this is the wording:

Code: Select all

. What evidence will you provide to show that your previous earnings were made while working in your expert field?

You can select more than one option.

Employment contract between you and a UK employer or institution which indicates the field of work you have undertaken Letter from employer or institution on official headed paper confirming you have earned money in your expert field

Please advise

I showed you what the immigration rules say. The document list should only be used as a guide on what you can send

Many thanks Zimba, do you think my provided evidence is good enough to pass the requirements

I applied for ILR under the GT route.

You can provide just one payslip from your job at the University and this will satisfy the earning requirement. Explain that was your salary when working in your expert field.

That's all you need. The other documents you listed are not required!
