MN-1 Registration child born outside UK

Post by mastidl » Thu Jul 02, 2026 11:46 am

Hi,

I am going to apply for my kids British citizenship in this week. Both kids(13 and 9) are born outside UK and father became British citizen in Mar 2026 and mother's naturalisation application under process.

father is living in UK from Jun 2019 on skilled worker visa - got ILR in Apr 2024 - citizenship ceremony in Mar 2026. Kids and mother arrived in Oct 2020 and living from that date onwards in UK - all 3 received ILR in Aug 2025.

I have couple of questions
1. I believe application is going to be under Home Secretary’s discretion – Section 3(1).I am selecting these options, please confirm these are correct

Choose which category to apply under.
You are a child under 18 and : You were born outside the UK
Other - apply at the discretion of the Home Secretary

Are either of the parents of the child (as stated in this application) applying
for naturalisation as a British citizen on an AN form? - Yes

I would still like my child (as stated in this
application) to be registered as a British citizen
even if my own application for British citizenship is refused. -Yes

2. Regarding the passports, it says
"Colour copies of all pages of the passport or travel document for Mr [name] from India. This includes blank pages. The copies must be in page order, and clear enough so all text can be read easily."

both kids have 2 passports as their passport got renewed last year. should I submit all pages of the old passport on which they entered and current passport as well ?

3. Mr [name]'s parent's foreign (non-EU) passport or alternative evidence of residence - what should I provide here ?

a) both parents passport pages which has stamps or all pages of the passport? if yes, father's old Indian passport and current British passport both need to be submitted - father did not travel outside UK after obtaining the British passport?

b) bill statements - council or utilities or bank statements of both parents ?
c) how long ? means from 3 years or past 2 years ?

4. for kid who is 9 the application is still asking for the referral but as per my knowledge referral needed only when the kid is 10 or over. Is it because the 9 year old about be 10 in another 20 days ?

Sorry if these questions asked before, but I could not find them with details I am looking for.

Thanks,

all correct

yes as it will prove their residence

3. Mr [name]'s parent's foreign (non-EU) passport or alternative evidence of residence - what should I provide here ?

Is this being asked in the registration application for your children? I am a bit confised, can you elaborate?

all applications need 2 referees. Not sure why you would think unser 10 year old children are exempt.

Sorry if these questions asked before, but I could not find them with details I am looking for.

Thanks,

Passports with stamps should be enough.
