British passports for newborn in Pakistan

Hi Everyone;

I need to know how anyone can apply for their newborn children who are in Pakistan and the Father is in the UK, having a passport. The father got his passport through descent, and now what is the proper route to apply for his kids in UK while the kids are in Pakistan? I would appreciate is someone could guide me through the correct form to use and how that application can be made; is it in Pakistan or the UK, and through whom it needs to be made.

If you are British by descent and your children were born abroad, they are NOT automatically British.tjey would only be British if they had been born in the UK.

Did you apply to Naturalise as British?? If yes, that makes you British OTHERWISE than by Descent.

As CR001 has already asked above, you would need to go into more detail as to how the father is a British citizen by descent (i.e. was one of the father's parents naturalised or registered as a British citizen before their birth? Or was the father himself registered as a British citizen, and if so, under which section of which British Nationality Act (1948 or 1981)?

As already mentioned above, a British citizen by descent parent cannot automatically pass on their British citizenship to their children born abroad. Any children born to them within the UK would be British citizens otherwise than by descent.

Has the British citizen by descent father lived in the UK for three continuous years before the birth of the children? That may open up some possibilities.

Yes, the father has been living in the UK for the last 21 years, and we have been advised to use the following link to apply for it https://www.gov.uk/register-birth-abroad ............. Once the children are registered as British citizens, we can then apply for the passport. My main query is: are we using the right form in this case? I would appreciate any help here. Many Thanks,

I believe as the child is born abroad you still need to apply for registration for him to become a British citizen before he can get a passport.

Whether the children are automatically British or not depends on you answering the question I asked a few days ago.

Are you asking the question on behalf of somebody else?

To be able to assist you/that person further, we need to know how they got British citizenship by descent. Were they (the British citizen by descent parent) born outside the UK to a parent who was a British citizen otherwise than by descent at the time of their birth? Or were they registered as British citizens later on? And if so, under which section of British Nationality Act 1981 were they registered? Different ways of acquiring British citizenship by descent may have different results.

Specific questions are
(a) When and which month/year was the British citizen by descent parent born?
(b) Which month/year and how did their British citizen parent acquire their British citizenship?

That is incorrect. Not sure who is advising you.

It is possible that the children may be able to be registered as British citizens, but that is a different type of registration. That is registration of children as British citizens (read the paper form to get an idea of what is asked for, and the MN1 guidance for more info).

But all of that is based on how the British citizen by descent parent got their British citizenship (i.e. what is the specific pathway of descent). Because registration of children as British citizens has different requirements depending on the history of the British citizen parent(s).
