Sex offenders on ILR

Post by londoner1200 » Mon Aug 17, 2026 1:12 am

Hope everyone is well,

My neighbour who is an Afghan citizen arrived to UK about 3 months ago with his wife and kids. The whole family were granted ILR to join his 13 years old son who has been in UK for nearly 6 years. He was caught by the UK predators ring for chatting to underage girls online, he didn't meetup with any girls but the messages were very explicit. He was arrested and released on bail. I feel very bad for his kids and wife hence I have these questions.
1. Will he be deported back to Afghanistan?
2. Will he or the family lose ILR?
3. Any other opinion on what could happen to him and his family?

Thanks a lot everyone

Have a read of the Revocation of indefinite leave caseworker guidance.

Even if contemplated, revocation will come at the end of a long process.

Firstly, he would need to be convicted in a court of law. The Home Office will then look at whether he can be deported. If he can't be deported, the ILR can be revoked, but he can be given some other form of leave.

What is certain is that a conviction will destroy any chance of naturalisation as he will fail the good character requirement. And he will need to declare that conviction when he travels outside the UK, so it is likely that he will not be able to travel abroad, as either an Afghan or as a British citizen (if he is granted British citizenship, however unlikely that may be).
