Proof of Income

Dear all, thank you in advance for your time.

Following my question of returning resident status for my wife (Malaysian), we have decided to err on the side of caution and submit a full settlement application when the time comes.

My question is regarding income. Since I am currently teaching in a local University out here in Malaysia (my contract runs out in May 2006), I am rather concerned with the required proof. I should perhaps mention a few points.

My wife is also working as an academic out here in Malaysia (same University).

My wife and I met in London during postgraduate studies in 1997. We married in the UK in Sept. 1998 (civil). My wife was awarded ILR sometime in 2000. We moved to Malaysia in Jan 2002 (work opportunities).

My parents have a quite a substantial house in London and have agreed to temporarily accommodate us (and provide financial assistance if required) until I can find a flat.

Both my wife and I are pharmacists (with UK PhD's) and so finding work in the UK should not be a great problem (pharmacists are in short supply).

We have some savings, around 6000 GB pounds.

We have never claimed benefits.

Our twin daughters were born in Malaysia in 2002, both hold Malaysian passports but British style birth certificates (Right of Abode).

I plan to travel to the UK first, and my family will hopefully follow. Should we submit an application for settlement before I leave (bear in mind I will not have UK pay slips), or should I wait until I have secured employment in the UK?
