pred02 wrote:Hi,
I filled my application online and requested Jan 20, 2010 to be the date of entry, but now that I am thinking about it I would like to take some time to travel a bit. As I do not require a UK visa for non-work purposes I can be in the UK (enter) before my visa takes effect, i.e. while looking for employment. I would not like to waste away the two year period prior to actually being int he UK and looking for employment.
Or is the visa active from the point we begin employment? If the visa is issued but I have not arrive to the UK can I change the date? After the issuance of visa, issue date will not be changed.
I know that if I want to change something from the submitted application online I have to submit a written letter, which I intend to do just wondering if its ok to request a later date (like mid Feb 2010) or is this a problem if I already submitted an online application with payment.
There is no problem in correcting the mistake of intended travel date. You can correct it, by writting the correct dates, on the print out of online application form. It is possible to do so: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/faqs/onlineforms/20891907
I have not send supporting documents yet.
One more question. I submitted the online application and signed it on Oct 15, done my biometrics on Oct 20th and will send this Friday, however on the top of the printout (of the online application) it says Sept-30-09 as the application date (this is because I saved a couple of times before submitting the application). Is this ok? (all statements and stuff are up to Sept-30th however a couple of laters are dated later in October).
For applications made outside the United Kingdom
The date of the application is the date that the fee associated with the application is paid. This means the date shown on your payment receipt, which depends on how you paid for your visa application, for example, at British Diplomatic Post, visa application centre or online. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/worki ... y/#header2
Thanks!
So I paid October 15, 2009. I requested January 20th, 2010. Is my travel date invalid?Date of travel/visa validity start can be requested NOT more than 3months from the date of application.. (as per HO?)

Also - I read somewhere that the visa is valid from the point I enter the UK (the 2 year Tier 1 period). Therefore, the travel date should not come into question until I am ready to go to the UK (which I plan on doing in January or February) I just want to allocate myself time for a transition - i.e give notice at work, visit family in the old country, etc.
You can enter UK until the last date of validity of visa. But this is also the last date for which you are permitted to stay in UK.
Thanks!
So I have to switch the date from January 20, 2010 to January 14, 2010 on my application and the visa is valid until January 14, 2012. I have to enter before January 14th, 2012 but the visa does not begin when I enter (let's say Feb 1, 2010) but rather from Jan 14 2010 to Jan 14 2012.Yes, it is invalid. You can ask for January 14 or earlier.
You can ask for it to be post-dated up to three months if you do not plan to travel immediately. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply ... nt#3885854pred02 wrote: where does it stay that the travel date has to be less than 3 months?
