Yes, you can appeal against the decision.npanglia wrote:I need some help/suggestion/advice on my qualification assessment.
I have done my PG in International Business in 2006 from a B School (Symbiosis Institute of International Business, Pune) which is supposedly equivalent to MBA. At the time when I passed out (Year 2006) I was awarded PG Diploma by the institute since it was an autonomous institute at that time.
Post 2006, the institute came under Symbiosis International University and the same program which was undertaken by me in 2004-06 (which was 2 yr Full Time) started to award MBA Degree by the university. This course also got AICTE Approved in 2006.
(When I say same program I mean the entire curriculum, assessment, classroom study, evaluation etc remains exactly same)
Now When I got my qualification assessed by NARIC, they evaluated it as equivalent to British PG Diploma. However everyone who will be awarded MBA (Post 2006) degree for the same course will be compared equivalent to British Masters (Because it’s directly from university).
Technically, if I repeat the same course today, it will be British Masters. This puts me in a head scratching situation.
Please suggest if anything related can be appealed back to NARIC. Or Do I have to accept the same as British PG Diploma and disqualify myself for Tier 1 General Visa.
Note: Symbiosis International University is listed in PBS and recognized by University Grant Commission-GOI, AIU & AICTE.

I don't think your reasoning is correct here. Let's think other way around. If I complete course from your institute now I might have to pay more fees than you did. Can I reason the fact that, if I had done this course before 2006 I could have save X amount of fees hence I will only pay 2006 fees? Obviously not.The same is true for reverse your case as well. When you did the course there were no provision for MBA from your institute but now it is. You can raise the same NARIC and see what happen.npanglia wrote:I need some help/suggestion/advice on my qualification assessment.

IIM was on and off the list of NARIC and PBS. It was not always considered equivalent to masters. But some time back it was considered and people got visa based on it..again it was not considered. This is very annoying especially when people miss opportunities due to this uncertainity.npanglia wrote:Another case, also IIM PG Diploma is considered Masters which means its product is being valued (Education/curriculum) here not the attributes (PG Diploma)

This is discussed in this forum for quite some time.npanglia wrote:This is news for me.
I think it is more to with the way Degree are affiliated within India. If govtou . of India cannot evaluate two qualifications properly..you cannot really blame NARIC. I saw a person who is most of the time out of the college, done MBA from a third grade college/university was recognised. whereas people doing from a reputed college in pune were denied. Anyway Good Luck.!!!npanglia wrote:Considering the same I have appealed to NARIC and I am certain to fight the case till last since I can see XYZ institutes even they dont offer higher education standard are recognized as Masters degree just because they are from university. This thing is definitely realized by indian corporates and MNC's that is why they recruit with high packages from top tier institutes even if they award PG Diploma instead of MBA.

Probably will approach AIU to issue me a letter of comparability which I can submit to NARIC.
Surely I will, however does anyone know what is the turn around time for Appeals process ?mvent00 wrote:Good luck!! Please let us know the outcome of your appeal. Wish you all the best!!
The outcome of the appeal has come, NARIC has not changed its decision. However they mentioned if we can provide a letter of equivalence to MBA from AICTE or AIU, they can reevaluate the case.mvent00 wrote:Good luck!! Please let us know the outcome of your appeal. Wish you all the best!!
