Applying 3 months before current visa is valid

Hi,

I am currently on HSMP (valid till Feb 2010). I am planning to apply for extension under Tier 1 - General in this month (November 2009).

Would the extension be granted from Feb 2010 or from the date they consider my application?

Do I need to mention anything in the application form / cover letter so that they grant extension from Feb 2010?

Kishore,

You can apply now and should get the new visa valid from date of expiry of current leave. However, please note that this is upto the Caseworker and is not a rule. It would help if you mention in the Cover Letter that you are applying early and request early extension.

Yes you can apply early. In your cover letter, request caseworker to grant you extension from Feb2010. But its upto case worker whether to grant you visa from Fen2010 or not.

Dear yadakishore,

I applied in late september September (almost 4 months before my visa expired).

My visa expired in 21 January 2010.
I didn't mention anything in my cover letter for "early" application
I got the visa extension from 21 January 2010 to 21 Jan 2013

It depends on caseworker, but in my case it worked.
