Switching from HSMP to Tier 2, pls help

Hi all.
Pls i need advice on my issue. I have been granted HSMP since june 2008 but I didnt get into the UK til septtember 2008. On getting into the UK, i did not get a job so i decided to do a MSc. I completed my msc in september 2009 and got a job to resume in january 2010. My HSMP visa expires in june 2010 and the company willing to employ me is worried about my visa renewal because i have not worked at all within the last 12 months and wants me to come up with solution. The job i have got is just paying about £25000pa which is also not enough for the minimum salary scale to renew my visa(£26000). Also my degree is among those advertised on the shortage list for the uk but i dont know if i can switch to Tier 2 because I have not worked at all since i have been around.If I can switch to Tier 2, pls how do i go about it and what do you advice i tell the company willing to employ me backed up by facts.

I will be be glad to get ideas and advice.
