Dear frnds,

my HSMP visa granted on 06 Feb 2008 valid till 06 Feb 2010. after lot of job search in uk , June 2008 i came to SriLanka and working as director in 3 companies. thinking that HSMP cannot be renewed without earning in UK, i gave up but recently a friend of mine told me that it's possible.

i just wanted to know whether i can extend my hsmp visa from srilanka or shall i go for new tier 1 application to keep my work permit status??
your experiance and advice 'l be much appriciated..

For extension, you will need to provide evidences that you have money in UK which is clearly not the case. If you come to UK and earn enough salary to claim points for extension than you are fine(which i doubt). Else you can also apply for new tier-1 application.

Not sure what do you mean by "keep my work permit status"? When you apply for new Tier-1 , I think you old status will e overwritten. You will not be able to claim ILR based on old(or current ) HSMP visa.

I cant seem to find that thread, but one of the guyz did get this way. The only problem is that your ILR clock is still set to ZERO!

Dear Confused hsmp..

i know you are refering to the guy MSI_GEEK.. at the below link..

But i am not at all sure how honest he is because he never expalined the process or elaborated on his success of visa with overseas earnings.. except for the statement he wrote

I recently got HSMP to Tier 1 Extension with Overseas Earnings ONLY - NO UK earnings.

But he is only one of those cases i came across and HO Guidance also does not support his claim..

So it is better not to mis guide.. i think soo... no offence please...

Agree with Ramesh.
If HO grant extension like this, people will start getting citizenship while working/living from their home country. I would love it as well. But that is not possible. So in OP's case, unless he earn salary in UK he cannot get extension.

He can apply for fresh Tier-1 which will set ILR timer to zero .
