Account ending its term

Post by juliajules1979 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:10 pm

Hi

My husband can apply for ILR on the 18th may, as he will have completed 2 years in UK (settlement visa).

We can submit his application 28 days before, (21st April). However on the 7th April, our joint savings account will finish its years term. I have supplied statements throughout the last year showing this account.
(I will also be supplying joint current account statements for the full 2 years).
I am confused as to what I should do. I am aware that I need to submit up to date statements, if I submit the last statement on my savings account it will be dated 6th April, 2010, do you think that the home office will ask for a more recent statement on this account? After 7th April the account will close and the money we have invested in it will need to be reinvested in a new account, and I dont want home office to see a large sum of money being put into a newly opened account.

Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

Hi Julia

That's an odd product for any bank to offer a customer?? But that's by the by...

If the amount being transferred to the new account is exactly the same as the old account I feel that is prefectly explainable. You had a limited term savings account and the bank required you to close that account and transfer funds to a new account upon expiry of the account. Do you have a copy of the Term & Conditions for your existing account? Provide this as evidence to UKBA. If not the bank should/must supply a copy of the T&C to you.

You're not doing anything dodgy like money laundering and are being dictated by your bank. You have nothing to worry about and you have a perfectly acceptable explaination for the change of accounts :D Though why would you not want the UKBA to see this transfer?

Thanks for your advice. I have no problem with them seeing the transfer, just wondered how I should go about it. I just didnt want them seeing a new account and thinking my husband has paid me to get his visa!!

Many thanks

Make sure you take statements from the closed account including the final statement showing the closure/transfer. Hopefully then there will be no question of your husband possibly paying you to marry him :D
