Entering the uk BEFORE student visa start date

Post by ra10201 » Thu Dec 30, 2010 11:26 am

Hi All,

I have a student visa that starts on Jan 21st, but I want to go to the UK before that.

I'm planning to spend the extra time travelling around, and would get a ticket to somewhere in Europe for a few days to return around the 21st so that my student visa kicks in.

Does anybody know if tis is a possibility, or would they turn me around and send me back?

Thanks!

They wont even let you enter, they will may cancel your existing visa and send you back home.

So if you want to play and wont like to go in further difficulties keep a return ticket with you. :P

that is the most absurd question i have heard in a while:)

you requested visa i.e permission to enter UK and they granted you.... But now, you want to come to UK outside the period granted on your visa stamp!

should be a no-brainer that you can;t enter UK before the date specified on your visa

and i have spent 2 minutes writing this reply. i want my two minutes back!

Ahh my mistake for assuming somebody had a modicum of intelligence to work out that I don't have to apply for a visa to get let in the country as a visitor, just to study etc.

Many thanks to the ones with the useful replies, much appreciated!

I asked at the British embassy here, and they said that it's basically up to the IO when I arrive, if they are in a good mood then they will let me in, if not then they won't!

Modicum of intelligence aside, not everyone is a non-visa national so unless you state your nationality or share the fact you cannot expect people to jump to such a conclusion.

If you are indeed a non-visa national then you may enter UK as a visitor without a visa but will need to leave UK before effective date of your student visa, so that you can then re-enter UK as a student on a student visa.
