Indian Citizenship renunciation and tourist visa application

Post by Richie » Fri Oct 28, 2011 8:11 pm

Hi guys,

I have a question that maybe someone can help with or had experience with.

A colleague who is Indian born has applied for a tourist visa under her British passport. They aren't happy and want a naturalisation certificate or notary certificate stating the original certificate was destroyed. Or deed of surrender from renunciation of Indian passport. It's not clear if naturalisation certificate and deed of surrender are both needed though.

She renewed her UK passport just this year and destroyed the old one which had previous visas in. She no longer has any certificates etc. A naturalisation certified copy can be sought from national archives but I reckon they'll want proof of Indian citizenship surrender and that's the trouble!

Anyway can anyone shed any light or help? Thanks in advance...

Which year did your friend naturalise as British citizen?
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

However, PIOs who acquired foreign citizenship more than ten years ago and their Indian passport also expired more than ten years ago, could be issued ‘Deemed Surrender Certificate’** if they furnish copy of Indian passport, or a letter from the Government of applicants present nationality mentioning the Indian passport detail at the time of acquisition of foreign nationality and also furnish proof of acquiring foreign citizenship more than ten years ago. It may please be noted that date of Registration or Naturalisation Certificate is to be counted as date of acquisition of foreign nationality and not the date of obtaining foreign passport. The fee for ‘Deemed Surrender Certificate’ will be £ 14.00 plus applicable charges including Consular Surcharge of £ 2.00 and applicable charges for M/s VFS (UK);
Above will apply for this case
