biometrics bar code not scanning at post office

Post by chrischris » Sat Feb 25, 2012 1:09 pm

after nearly six weeks of waiting for the biometrics letter to come through, i get home last night after work to find the letter was waiting for me there (never mind that my corresponding address is my work address).

first thing this morning i'm at the front of the queue at the post office, only to be told that the bar code on my letter is not scanning. and i have to ask for another letter from UKBA. i refused to accept, so i went to another post office to try again - same result.

i hope this is not a bad sign for my application. now the UKBA website is down, only god knows how one will be able to get through to them on the phone on monday. the letter says the biometrics have to be provided within 15 working days of the date on the letter - which was sent by second class post and arrived 3 working days later.

i'm so utterly anxious now. this wait for the biometrics has made me a nervous wreck. i was hoping to apply for a schengen visa to travel for easter, now that's completely out of the question. plus i want to switch jobs, this will delay things again.

has any one else had issues with the biometrics bar code with the post office?

never heard that bar code is not scanning but its sheer bad luck, instead of asking for another letter from UKBA you would be better off booking a PEO appointment for your biometric

the letter says 15 days but if you book an appointment within that time then u will be fine even if the appointment is after 15 days from the date

on second thought do both, call up HO & ask for another letter & book appointment too, if letter arrives first, dont forget to cancel the appointment before you give biometric & mention this to UKBA when you call

thanks so much Manka. i'll do just that.

i think doing the postal application has turned out to be probably one of the worst decisions i've made in my entire life. the strain the waiting has put me under is beginning to affect my health.

the next time i have anything to do with UKBA, i'm going to use the super premium service. one can not put a price on peace of mind.

there is actually a super premium service for biometric. will cost you 6 grand and they will come to your house to get your biometrics, they might even speed up your application if you pay that much

Hi chrischris

I am having similar problems with my barcode not working in post office today. barcode letters worked fine for my dependents..

Did you order new barcode letter and did the new letter work in post office?
I am regularly checking ONLINE if there is any PEO appointment available but none are available.. so getting worried.

Can book using phone? Also I saw on UKBA website that biometric
enrollment cannot be done at PEO after 05-Apr-2012.

I got the supposedly "corrected" biometric letter but that is also not working at the post office.

I created a new account and tried to book an appointment and I am not getting a error when I try to book online appointment.
Error is

"We do not have a record for the case ID and date of birth that you entered. Check that you entered these fields correctly or call the call centre."

The details are correct in the biometric letter.. looks like somewhere there is a typo..

I have a suggestion for you if you could try please.
if you have booked any PEO appointment on UKBA website, than cancel that appointment before going to post office for biometrics. I think your bar code shall work.you must cancel PEO appointment before going to post-office,otherwise your bar code shall not work.
I think its useless to get PEO appointment now, because you cant get appointment before 5th of April.
try any other post office as well please.
