Previous earning for extension

Post by ecool » Sat Apr 21, 2012 7:01 pm

Dear everyone,

I've read a lot posts here regarding oversea income, but still have ONE question: For the income made outside the UK, should I contact HMRC or any organization in the UK to get it eligible to claim the points?

75% of my income is made in the UK, while the other 25% is from my home-country, I work through the internet as a technical consultant, and the salary is made into my local bank account.

Thanks for your attention.

you have to get yourself registered as self-employed with HMRC and pay taxes to claim points for the kind of overseas work you have described

Thanks Sts, I read your other posts, your income in India is taxed in India, do you still need to pay tax in the UK?? It sounds ridiculous...

My job outside the UK started Jan 2012, and the monthly income is very little, but I got a big bonus this month.

I have not registered with HMRC yet, and I intend to renew my visa in July, is it too late to registered with HMRV now? :(

You may well have to pay tax on your worldwide income, yes.

It does depend however on a couple of factors and it's worth getting some professional advice on the matter.

In the meantime this will give you some idea: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/migrantworkers/tax-non-uk.htm

my overseas income was not in the capacity of a self-employed person of UK. it was salaried income and I left that job to take up another in the uk.
from what i remember about my self-employment research, you can include earnings from three months back from the date you register with HMRC

Thanks Matthew, if I do not contact HRMC for my oversea income, what would happen?

I called Home Office today, they do not need any information about the oversea income tax payment. What they need is any 2 forms of the income evidence. I will have a company letter and also the bank statement in my country showing the payment coming in every month. It sounds qualified...

If tax is due on your overseas income then you have a legal duty to inform HMRC of said income and then pay the relevant tax on it.

This is completely separate from any UKBA visa application.
