Self Employed

Post by sayma » Wed Jul 18, 2012 2:35 pm

I am self employed,
and will be submitting my husbands paper work begining of September.
I wanted to know what paperwork I would have to submit for the business. Ie bank statements, business accounts, business bills?

Hi sayma

In terms of self employment, you should be providing something along the lines:

Last Accounts copy
Accountant's letter detailing your annual income - in form of PAYE and Dividends
Dividend Vouchers - if any paid to you
Pay slips
Your bank statements - reflecting the dates and amounts on payslips and dividends
P60

In terms of showing your self employed status, I think the above should be sufficient. However it would be beneficial to provide any HMRC confirmation letter if any.
Feb 2012 - Spouse Visa - New Delhi
Mar 2012 - Documents collected - VISA Granted
March 2014 - ILR Granted
Apr 2015 - Applied for Naturalisation
Nov 2015 - Naturalised

Are you registered as self employed with hmrc? If so, do you have last financial years tax return? How much was your gross income according to the tax return?

Or

Do you trade through a private limited company that you have incorporated?

Submission of documents will be according to your personal circumstances. There are very specific documents that need to be submitted according to individual circumstances.

Under the current rules (post 9th july) there is nothing like "something along the lines" documents. There are very specific requirements that have been laid out depending on type of employment/earning.

For specific employment/earning types, the specific documents mentioned must be provided.

Having an income of £18600 is not enough. The income must be proved by submitting correct documents.

Why should I and how should I when I do not know what kind of earnings she has?

If you are acting as her representative then can you mention her specific circumstances, including a letter of authority from her that you are her representative?

Section 5.5.3 or 5.5.4 depending on whether you're a sole trader or ltd company.

It is a 2 year old private limited company.
What documents would i need?
Are financial accounts enough or must i provide bank statements too?
My bank statements are not up to scratch as we do a lot of cash transactions, and have had a few moths low trading between May-June.

See my previous post - the sections outlined make it very clear what's required.
