Just a question

Post by karwan1 » Sun Jul 22, 2012 11:56 am

Hey guys,

I have one question to ask just in case. Currently I am working full time and pay my taxes. My wife is currently on the 2 year probation period before applying for the ilr visa. i'm a full British citizen.
I was asking myself just in case I have financial problems or become unemployed in the future (though this is very unlikely, but just in case) were I may need help financially with basic living costs, does any one know if im allowed to claim any public funding at all for example housing benefit work tax credits and will this effect our application when applying for the ilr visa in the future?
if i claim wont it be considered has a joint claim as I'm obviously married will this directly effect my wife's visa application? Thanks in advance.

You as a British citizen is allowed to claim any benefits you want for yourself at any time you want, but certain benefits such as unemployment benefit or housing benefit, you would not be able to claim for your wife until such time she has been granted her ILR.

You can of course claim child benefit, child tax credit and working tax credit in joint names even before she is granted her ILR
