Do you need to do another English Test?

Post by kpankhurst » Tue Aug 21, 2012 10:48 am

My wife in February past her level 1 ESOL for Citizenship test, following which she applied and got her ILR.

We have been married for 4 years, and she has been resident in the UK for that time, so as far as I am aware from reading the Home Office website, and here, she can apply for naturalisation immediately.

The question I have is if she needs to pass another level of ESOL, or can she use the level she got before?

Thanks,

Kevin

Have you read form AN?

If not, I suggest you read it. The answer is there loud and clear.

Thanks for the helpful reply, I hear you loud and clear.

It says.

• Certificate of progression from one ESOL level to another along with evidence that the college is an
accredited college and confirmation that the course followed by the applicant was ESOL-with-citizenship

This is not clear (and definately not loud as it is written!) if the one we got for the ILR is sufficient, or another level is required.

Thanks to anybody who can provide me with a useful answer.

Kevin

I will say again. Have you read the form?

Read point 1.22 on the form

What are the options that you can choose under point 1.22 of the form?

It says:

I have successfully completed an approved ESOL with citizenship course and attach my certificate and confirmation
letter from the college.

However, in the notes it talks about from one ESOL level to another. That is where it isn't clear, does it mean the same one is accepted, or you need another level? Just need a simple yes/no answer.

I can give you answer in one minute, but I wont.

You sound intelligent enough to understand yourself.

Please read Point 1.22 again.

There are 4 options. If you can choose any one option, then you fulfill the requirement.

Read again carefully. What is the option that you will choose?

I can choose the option for ESOL certification, however as I said:

• Certificate of progression from one ESOL level to another

The thing that is throwing me is "progrssion from one ESOL level to another", and that is what I need clarifying. If she has achieved one level for her ILR, does she need another level for her naturalisation, or is the same level enough to satisfy their requirements?

It is just that when we renewed her visa after 2 years, they said the documents already submitted would not be valid for the next application. I just wondering if that is the case in this case.

Thanks,

Kevin

Sorry pal. I am 100 percent sure you are not reading point 1.22 of the form.

I have read it a dozen times.
The option you say you could choose is not even mentioned there.
I give up. This world is doomed.

Sorry, it isn't:

1.22 says:

Knowledge of language / life in the UK
1.22 Show how you intend to satisfy the requirements to have sufficient knowledge of language and life in the UK, see
page 10-15 in the accompanying Booklet AN.
I met the knowledge of language and life requirement to qualify for settlement
I have successfully completed an approved ESOL with citizenship course and attach my certificate and confirmation
letter from the college.
I have passed the Life in the UK test and attach confirmation. The test number is
I wish to claim exemption (physical and/or mental illness may not lead automatically to exemption. You should provide
grounds on page 13. Your application may fail and the fee retained if insufficient reasons for exemption are provided).

Now, in the supporting documents section (page 15) at the end it says:

SECTION 2 Evidence of knowledge of English and of Life in the UK: required for all applicants
Certificate of progression from one ESOL level to another along with evidence that the college is an
accredited college and confirmation that the course followed by the applicant was ESOL-with-citizenship
(see pages 12-13 of Booklet AN) OR
• Letter confirming success in the Life in the UK Test,.OR
• Confirmation that you met this requirement in order to obtain settlement.OR
• Letters and other evidence to show that you should be exempt on grounds of incapacity.
• Tick to indicate that you are claiming exemption on grounds of age.

Perhaps I read both sections, and I read them well. Now, if I can get a clear answer then it will be appreciated.

I do not fancy riddles anymore :-)

There are no riddles.

How about choosing the first option?

I met the knowledge of language and life requirement to qualify for settlement

Don't you think you could tick the box of the above option and not read information that you do not need to read?

You are researching a subject which is of no relevance to you.
