URGENT: Unmarried or same-sex partner visa query

Post by tensedandworried » Wed Sep 26, 2012 2:13 am

Hi All,

I would be grateful if someone can help me with his advice, suggestion and time on this matter...

I am an Indian citizen living and working in the UK on a PSW visa. I have a girlfriend, who is English, and I am planning on applying for an 'Unmarried Partner Visa'.

My query is as follows: I have been living with my girlfriend for the past two or three months, although we have known each other for over two years. How can I prove that that we have known each other for over two years? We met at a pub initially. What proof can I give to show that we have know each other for two years, and not just for the past two or three months that we have been living together? We hold no joint bank accounts either...

Thanks.

You have to have been living together for two years to qualify.

Thank you Greenie for your reply. Indeed, I have talked to the Border Agency and they say that I cannot apply for this visa...;-(

So I plan to go back to India and then come back on a six-month tourist visa and live with my girlfriend. Thereafter, I will go back to India again and then apply for a fiancee visa.

However, for this, I wanted to get some advice...

When I come on a tourist visa, I will not be able to give a notice of marriage to the registry office (as it is against the law to do anything like this when you are on a tourist visa). However, to apply for the fiancee visa, I need to show while applying that I plan to get married inside the subsequent six months. How can I provide such a document when I cannot register when I am on a tourist visa?

Can anyone please advise me what to do about this? All your help with be appreciated.

Thanks.

You can apply for Special visitor: Marriage / civil partnership visit visa, instead of "general" visit visa.
