Tax related question

Post by Ged » Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:43 am

Hi I recently paid ILR fees of £992 I guess. Since I am still in pain due to this sum, I am considering if some of it can be recovered from my tax.

Although I am a salary man, and my tax normally gets deducted by my employer, I also started trading as a part time seasonal worker for which I have to pay tax myself. I can deduct some of my expenses from my earnings and I will do that for some things like mobile phone expenses etc.

However, can the money I have paid for ILR be used as part of these expenses?

Thanks, but,
Why not really? Didn't I have to pay this sum to be able to work? Can you be more specific on that?

In order to be claimable - it has to be exclusively encountered in the course of your work.

It isn't - as it also allows your personal life to remain here.

It is the same as if you work at home - you can't claim the mortgage on your house because it's not exclusively a business expense - but you can claim a portion of the heating because of the use of part of your house as an office.

I see. I understand even a part of it will not be claimable although it allowed me to do this work here. I have to try to forget the pain I feel about these inflated visa fees and move on.

Many thanks.
