Best local authority for private ceremony

Best local authority for private ceremony

Hi All,

I am planning of having a private citizenship ceremony. I want to invite my parents from abroad and hence want to make it look best... erm, even grand, if I may say so :)
Can anyone advise best looking premises. I want something classy, grand, classical British style. I am thinking of Westminster council on Marylebon road or Chelsea Old Town Hall on Kings Road. Westminster charges flat fee of £100 per private ceremony. Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is charging £175 per person! ( I don't understand whether it means per person taking part in the ceremony or per person in the premises, per guest?)

Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas? I will be very grateful! :)

You attached your post to a topic that had not been used for over seven years, so I separated it, so now you have your own topic.

I cannot comment upon the London councils you mention but here in Birmingham the "public" ceremony is done in the very historical Council House, whereas I think private ceremonies are done quietly in the Register Office.

In other words, you need to think carefully about the choice you are just about to make.

I hope you realise that your certificate will be with your local council and you might need to inform them if you would like to have your Ceremony anywhere else.

I am not sure. I did my NCS appointment in the county where I work, and in the AN form I filled some fields requesting to hold the ceremony in the county where I live, but my understanding at the time was that I could have chosen any other county for the ceremony. Also, after the invitation, the county where I live offered me 3 different venues in 3 different city/towns.

Hi John, thank you so much for creating a separate topic for me! :) Such an honor! :) And thanks a lot for a very valid point re public versus private ceremony. I will do my research and will think properly. In the meantime I want to create a list of London councils with their charges for private ceremonies and possibly pictures or info re public/private space for ceremonies. But I realised that the only chance to meet dignitaries is to attend public ceremony. The only downside of these is the limitation of 2 guests per person.

Hi Vinitmanu, as far as I am concerned, I can apply to have a ceremony in any UK local authority. I just have to specify it's name in the form. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right, unless you specify the council you want to have your ceremony on the form, your certificate will by default go to your local council (i.e. the council local to where you live). However, I got the impression from the OP that his application is already approved and he is now trying to find the best council for his private ceremony. And if that's the case his certificate would have gone to his local council.

Yes, you are right. I just assumed that your application is already approved and you are now thinking of having a private ceremony at one of the council's you mentioned.
