Income Tax and Tier 2 visa

Post by Shamino » Thu Apr 18, 2013 4:42 pm

Hi there

I recently called HMRC regarding my tax situation, which they directed me to the UKBA.

My situation is, I left my employment in August 2012 as my Tier 5 visa expired and only returned back to the UK in February 2013 under a Tier 2 visa.

Given my absence, I'm wondering whether I might have overpaid my taxes and national insurance.

Did anyone experience this dilemma and know the right course of action?

Much appreciated for the assistance

Cheers

I am a bit perplexed as to why HMRC would direct you to UKBA when your question is a tax related one, which has nothing to do with UKBA.

This is how you find out if you have paid too much tax through employment

Hi Greenie

I'm pretty confused myself why they cannot provide me tax details.

I thought it was simple enough, where I just add the total income I earned and taxes and national insurance I paid, and if I had overpaid, HMRC should pay me back.

However, the call centre person asked his supervisor, stated they cannot provide any information regarding this, and that I would need to contact the UKBA.

I will give HMRC another call

Cheers
