Urgent Query about Student Visa

Post by ABCD08 » Mon Jul 01, 2013 5:13 pm

Hello, I am from India and I have a Master's offer from the University of Cambridge with full scholarship for 2013/14. I am preparing to apply for the Tier 4 visa soon.

There is a section in the application which asks if we have lived abroad, and we have to explain when, where and for what purpose. I lived in Germany back in 2007-8 as a student for a little over a year (had to return back due to financial difficulties at home) and I have mentioned this in the application.

My question is, will this delay my application? Do they take longer with the background checks in such cases? And do they ask to submit some kind of police clearance from all the other countries that we have lived in? Or do they only do this in case of other kinds of immigration?

They may check your record with German Immigration Authorities, but not necessary. If they do, it will only take few hours or a day. If you did not do anything wrong in Germany, it will be fine. If you have some bad history, than they will investigate it further and decision will be late in that case. If you have some police clearance documents, submit it with your application. Otherwise, you don't need to submit any kind of document in this regard if they don't ask.

Thank you for your reply. I did not have any trouble with the authorities in Germany at all but I believe my account was overdrawn by about 40-50 euros and I flew back in a hurry without closing it. Will this cause problems?

As long as you fulfill the standard requirements of Tier 4 visa and your Biometrics features/information give clearance once taken then most likely you will be fine.
