Dependent Work Permit Visa National insurance...help!!!

Post by Mohammed » Mon Feb 26, 2007 11:41 am

Hi there,

I would like to apply for a National Insurance No. Let me update you all on my visa status, I am an indian national on a dependent work permit visa valid for five years. I ve reached UK and I have successfully found a job and will be joining them this week. I hve noticed in the job offer form they have asked me to fill in my National Insurance no. I do not have one as I arived here only on 17th of feb.
I want to apply for NINO, but am not sure whther a dependent work permit visa holder is entitled to apply for a NINO? if I can apply how long will it take to get my NINO?
Please help

Contact ur local jobcentre and they'll either interview you or make u an appointment at the nearest jobcentre that can. Not all jobcentres can do it.

It's a formal interview just to make sure ur real, nothing to be scared of!

For now I'd just give ur employer a temporary number in the form TN260207M, TN=temporary number, then ur date of birth, then ur sex M/F.

Employers are not supposed to accept these TN NINO's any more but my gf's did which made things easier till we got a proper one.

1. In the job offer just leave the NI Box blank. NI application can be applied in 2 ways - either by you personally applying for it in a Job centre plus office (nearest you) and informing the Job cntre staff that you are about to start work and needs an NI or your employer can arranged that for you...depends on case to case basis.

2. NI processing time varies on a case to case basis - employers have an option to fast-track the processing in coordination with Revenue office and for a Job centre application, the staff will initially set an appointment date with you (face-to-face meeting) to validate that you and the supporting docs you possess are one and the same.

As soon as validation/verification checks are done during the interview, then Job centre staff will process your NI application and send them to you by post.

Thanks a lot Wanderer & Markie. I called them up and given them my details, they have arranged for an interview on 22nd March. They told me they will be posting a letter of confirmation for the interview and I can show my employer that letter.

Thanks a lot once again

Hi,
I have a work permit dependant visa which is valid for the next 1 and half years. My husband works here in Uk and is a work permit holder.I have found a programmers job in UK.Am I eligible to take up the job? Do I need anything else before joining the job?

Does a dependant of work permit holder have any restrictions on working in UK?

thanx in advance

Dear chandnip,

As a WP (or even a HSMP) dependant visa holder you can work in the UK. Probably thats one of the best part of coming to the UK. Ones partner can also work...

Get yourselves NI to avoid overpaying tax... As suggested please use the local jobcenter to get your NI interview appointment...

if you are going for a permanent job then your new employer can apply your NI. If it is contract then you/your billing comp need to sort this this out.

As most of people said it is not that hard. just a local job center interview.

Best wishes,
