Skilled Migrant Programme for Netherlands???

Post by kal » Fri May 04, 2007 9:17 am

Hi Friends,

Recently I come across a newsletter in workpermit.com that Netherlands is trying to welcome Skilled Workers on Points Bases System, does anyone have any idea about this scheme - when it is going to start and how to apply and how to calculate the points???

Please advice.

Thanks

Kal

.

I suspect you are referring to this article :

Emigration increasing in the Netherlands - more skilled workers needed
http://www.workpermit.com/news/2007-05- ... needed.htm

The most recent news out of Holland is that the government is beginning to "panic" over the loss of skilled professionals from their labor force.

However, the only thing happening right now is some rather serious & heated debate about what to do. I'm unaware of any concrete proposals in the works.

But, they are faced with doing something or doing nothing ... and they pretty much have to do something. It's the beginning of the process (started last fall), so don't expect finished legislation this year.

[ EDIT : Oh. I'm moving this topic to the Europe forum. The Netherlands is an EU nation & certainly does not belong in the "Other" category. ]

The Netherlands uses two definitions for skilled-labour. The first is the researcher, or 'kennis immigrant' which is just the countries wish to get smart people (PhD) in the country.

The second definition is cheap labour, which takes the form of Polish and other eastern European workers in agriculture, contracting, etc.

The Netherlands did not allow free movement of Polish workers before like the UK and Ireland, but they have opened the 'gate' to polish workers now, and they are coming in large quantities via job agencies, or uitzendbureau's.

The Netherlands is not an 'easy' country to get in, because of the problems they have had with large immigration numbers in the 80's and 90's, the number of migrants has decreased rapidly the last 2 years.
Dutch husband, American wife, applied for a residence card, after 7 months got a Stamp 4 visa for two years. :)
