PR UK denied boarding while travelling to Crete with my EEA.

Post by tommyprada » Mon Sep 02, 2013 10:00 am

Saturday 31/08/13 I have been denied boarding on the flight to Crete by EasyJet customer desk manager.
I have obtained my UK Permanent Residence card in April this years. Consequently, the UK Home Office stamped my 5 years Residence Card “cancelled” to issue the PR. As the PR does not state “EEA family member”, the lady from EasyJet told me that I needed a Schengen visa to travel to Greece – and that I was not considered as an EEA family member as it is not stamp on my PR. So, I have lost my holiday’s package.
Please can somebody advice me on what to do next?
Thanks a lot!

They are right mate.....

the rules are same for EEA4 as for EEA2 until you obtain British Passport

The only difference having Permanent resident is that when you come back to the UK borders then it doesn’t matters if your eu/eea national is in the UK or not.

PR doesn't give you the option to travel without VISA in the EU country.

You need a Schengen VISA. it's cheap too
UK Student Visa : 04/2004 - 09/2009
EEA Residence Card : 07/2010 - 7/2015
EU Settled Status: Confirmed on 16th July 2019
Naturalisation : Confirmed on 02nd Oct 2020
Passport Approval : 21st Feb 2021

This is not quite correct.

You have an article 20 residence card. This confers the same rights as article 10 residence cards. It would be absurd if this was not the case.

The confusion arises because embassy advise to travellers is that their residence card should state family member of a union citizen. This is to distinguish those who might have a residence permit under different rules.
The directive does not specify the wording to be used on article 20 cards. The UK's card does not mention anything to do with family members.

Complain and seek compensation.

You must have asked the refusal in writing. But one who acquired PR under eu route and travelling/joining EU national partner must be able to travel visa freely. Even one EU country which follow same directive confirm it below:
