F1 and Green Card

Hi,

One of my friend has a green card application based on family migration since 2001 and the application is still under process.

He wants to apply for F1 visa to study in US. He worries that visa officer will find out about his green card application and will refuse his application based on the fact that he could not satisfy returnability requirement.

Could you please help me if he is right or any similar experiences?
