Relationship Worry

Post by daf » Mon Jun 11, 2007 8:27 pm

I am on a Dependant Visa expiring end of this August. I am currently experiencing huge spousal differences and looks like wife wont be renewing visa for me. I have lived in this country for 3.5years and am working as a Civil Engineer. Is it possible for me to forget about renewing my dependant visa and apply for a work permit thru my employer. Do I have to leave the country and renounce my visa in my home country and lodge my new application from there. Is it possible to apply directly for a work permit upon expiry of this dependant visa without involving my wife. Or simply put, what can I do to remain in this country legally and keep my job

Well, to put your mind at ease, you can apply for any type of visa you qualify for. As a civil engineer you are probably highly qualified (congrats! ) so you can try the HSMP, or get your employer to apply for a WP (might be slightly long process, I don't know). I think your skills are highly sought after.

However, I am not sure whether or not you can do it in-country. I think these cases you need to return home (or is it vice-versa?), but it wouldn't really be a long process, if you have all the documents. Someone else can tell you more, but I'm quite sure you would not have to leave the country for good if you qualify for a work-type visa, student visa or the like.
