New KOLL requirement

Post by Maqsood » Mon Dec 09, 2013 6:51 pm

Hi, I have just received confirmation of my naturalisation as a British Citizen. Invitation Letter for Citizenship Ceremony is to arrive within 2 weeks. Now I want to apply for naturalisation of my wife as a British Citizen. Both of us had passed our Life in the UK test at ILR stage which was granted to us on 20th Sep 2012. I have lived in UK for more than 9 years so easily met the Residential requirement (to have lived in UK for atleast 5 years); so I was able to apply for Natuarlisation before the new KoLL rules; which became effective from 28th Oct 2013. I could apply for naturalisation of my wife only after I have been naturalised because she is been in UK for just over 3 years. So I will be applying for her natuaralization as a wife of British Citizen which reduces the Residential requirement to 3 years. My question is; does she need to meet the new KoLL requirement i.e. to have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification. OR she is exempt from new KoLL rules because she has already passed the LiUK test for ILR. Thanks. Maqsood.

Thank you for the reply. Can you please advise the most convenient and quickest way to satisfy this requirement. i.e. to have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification. Thanks

New KOLL requirement

Post by Maqsood » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:22 pm

Thank you again. She has a 2-year BA degree from Pakistan. English was one of the main subjects alongwith other subjects such as Political Science, Islamic Studies etc. Medium of instruction was mainly in Urdu. Don't know whether her BA degree can exempt her from going through this requirement. Any one with feedback please?

A degree taught mainy in Urdu is not acceptable. They are looking for B1 level in English, not Urdue.

A two year degree taught in Pakistan will not even be regarded as a degree in UK.
