I posted the following in another thread but I didn't receive a reply so I thought that I would post it here and see if anyone can help me.

My daughter (over 21) and me would like to apply for an OCI but neither of us were born in India. My father was born in India (but left the country at an early age) and we have proof of his birth, would this be enough for both of us to apply?

Also, can both of us apply together and if that is possible how do we go about doing that?
Do we just submit both of our applications together or is there a different procedure?

Finally, if I submit my application next week can I get my passport returned before the 14th of August? because I will be travelling on the 15th.

Hi, could you please confirm the date you received your British passport with OCI stamped? Thanks

Photo / Signature at mission: SCANNED ON 31-MAY-2012

All the best for those waiting for the British passports. It might be better to get the passport stamped by going in person (though it sounds ridiculous!!!)

Perhaps not such a good idea to post such information on an open forum.

The process is considerably slower at Birmingham
Is it not possible for Birmingham residents to submit their application in person in London? If not can they do it by post? I think the postal applications are processed in London and hence relatively quicker??

Hi Valluvan,

I think you are right. Looking at the postal processing time lines, the average seems to be, 1 month to 45 days.

where as thru person in Birmingham, it takes atleast 3 months, which is quite frustrating.

Any other members, please let me know your thoughts.

Kind Regards

Hi, I am from Birmingham and applied for OCI in person at HCI, London in May this year. It took 3 weeks for the whole process. You can apply anywhere for OCI , There are no jurisdiction restrictions as such.

Hi, it doesn't matter where you live in the UK, you can apply for OCI in HCI, London. I think the jurisdiction applies for other services not for OCI. Just make sure when you fill the online form for OCI you register it under London office.

Clarification Reqd - Postal OCI Application in Birmingham

Post by ILR_Queries » Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:25 pm

Hi,

I am planning to apply through post for CGI in Birmingham though i understand it is going to get delayed when compared to the London HCI process.

I have some doubts,

1) The CGI Birmingham website on the FAQ page says, 172 pounds and on the fees page, it says, 175 pounds. which amount i should take postal order?

2) After the grant of registration, what time of the day, should i go to the Birmingham CGI office (in person) to get the U sticker visa stamped on my British passport?. Also wondering, how long will
the registration be valid, before i get the U sticker visa stamped?

3) The CGI Birmingham website says, i need to submit my originals along with my application. If so, should i send my original surrendered Indian passport, which has now been cancelled?
Also should i send the Naturalisation Certitifcate as well?

Please Clarify.

Regards

Well, after numerous emails that didn't get any reply whatsoever my OCI has been granted after 7 months of application. We submitted three applications in December 2011, one was granted in March 2012 and other two today (30th July). Something weird going on there. We plan to go to Birmingham to collect our OCIs once the other two have arrived in Birmingham.

I am also in same boat - I have submitted 4 applications on 26/06/12 in person at HCI London. 3 applications are granted and sent back to London by 20/07. My application still shows "Under Process", I am trying over phone everyday to speak with someone in london office to confirm that they have not misplaced my application but no luck. Sent few emails but no reply. I felt very upset on the day I submitted my application in person at HCI london, they have wasted my full day for just submitting the application and now this delay. I thought of going in person at HCI London to speak with someone to find out the status of my application but then again I don't know if it is worth to waste a day and may be no result. Someone please help and let me know how to contact them...

Hi

I am new to this forum and am in a bit of a predicament. My oci was granted and ready for collection on 3/7/12 I sent my britsh passport, self addressed envelope and printout of online status enquiry to consulate in Birmingham 20 Augusta street jewellery quarters

The website of cgi birmingham says that it takes up to 7 working days to get the oci card and passport back.

My dilemma is that I am flying to India on 8th August 2012 and haven't yet got my oci or my passport!!!

What do I do??i have been trying to ring cgi birmingham which is always busy. I emailed all people I could see on the site but to no avail

I have just today written and posted a letter requesting my things

Please advise me

Many thanks

Send (or fax) them a firmly worded but polite letter asking them to return your passports. Mention that you need to travel overseas (need not mention India) on 8-Aug. They do not have any business / right to hold your British Passport for longer than reasonable time. 3 weeks is far too much for any embassy to hold a foreign passport for visa.

It would work.

Basically I faxed a polite letter to the consulate (0121-2122786) explaining my need for my passport and oci. I then rang from 4:30pm cgi Birmingham the strange thing is they rang me back...can you believe it I actually SPOKE to someone!! She was rather abrupt but I was and am so thankful its all sorted out now!! she said my passport and oci card are being sent out today and I will receive tomorrow

Thank you

I have just got my surrender letter and am planning on applying for my OCI in London. I was born in India and obtained Portuguese citizenship in Goa India. The OCI website says that in the application form for non UK passport holders the address to be entered is the residential address of the Passport issuing country. Since I have never lived in Portugal and dont have a address there I am confused on whether I should enter my Goa India address or my current UK address. Has anyone come across a similar situation like this? Can anyone help.

Also since I need to travel to India next month I am applying for a visa next week. Will they ask me for my original passport at the time of submission of the OCI documents?
