it is so unfair that uk government keep changing to law. a lot of immigrants come here work hard and contribute to the uk society. and it seems that the government are doing everything to make sure they don't get anything in the end.
i think personally i have made a mistake to come over to this senseless country.

The combined ILR+Citizenship time has already been increased from 5 years to 6 years. With the new changes, it looks very likely to go up to 7, and depending on how much voluntary work they will expect people to do, it could likely be more.

I read the closed consultation notes on BIA website. On voluntary work, it's been stated that they won't make it mandatory but if anyone engages in such community service, then it would hasten their path to citizenship. What's not clear though is how's the amount of volunteering going to be gauged and what would be deemed as meeting the stipulated standard?

Maybe I am just naturally pessimistic, but I think "hasting" is not the right word. The consultation rather suggests that the path will take longer, and if you do not do voluntary work, that may delay it further. It sounds like 7 years will probably be be the fastest you can do, plus processing delays. If you are not deemed "British enough" (what does that mean anyway? eating Sunday roast? binge drinking? Christmas crackers?), it will take longer.
