Thanks for the update. What an absolute shambles though to wait that long. How can they justify holding someone's passport for that long to renew a card? Apparently they renew UK Citizens' passports in a few weeks. I won't hold my breath then. One of my kids has already had to say no to a post-university trip abroad with friends thanks to these ridiculous waiting times.

hello All
DX delivery delivered my RC to unknown person. so I never received my RC.
I contacted both with DX and Home office both said RC has been delivered on your address.

now I am thinking about to use premium service.
Is it only 56 pounds fee or 590 pounds
how long I will receive my RC if I use premium service.

thank you guys if some one can help me in this matter.
Same happened to me!!! it's so annoying. DX just let anyone sign for it  I refused to pay £590 for their mistake and most importantly it has ruin all my plans

Update: After posting off BRP(RC) applications for two of my kids in May and doing scans in June I received their passports yesterday (16th Sept 17) with a letter stating that the BRP cards will follow shortly.
So about 4 months processing time.
I've just sent off another of my kid's renewal applications on Friday so we'll see how long that takes.

After having sent off my daughter's BRP(RC) application she's run into difficulty with her work. She is a student at university with a part-time job but her employer won't give her anymore shifts nor will he pay for the 3 days' work she's just done because she can't provide proof of residency. She showed a photo of her expired BRP card but the employer interprets this as an out of date visa which of course it is not.

What experiences have others had in getting a letter or something that is sufficient for employers to prove that the person has ILR and the right to work?

Appreciate any advice as my daughter has just called me in tears.
Cheers, Max

I've just found this site. Once I get the Case ID this will hopefully solve the problem. Has anyone had any success with this?

Hi Max,
So I had a similar issue where a new employer refused to allow me to start work because I had a passport visa not a BRP (in an expired passport with a valid new one). No one had told me I had to have a BRP and I had to apply & pay for premium etc. When I started or joined discussions here there were a few others with similar issues. (Of course thousands and thousands of ILRs don't have and don't know they "need" a BRP.) In one successful case the person contacted their MP and the MP contacted the HO who told the employer they had to give the employee six months to obtain a valid BRP. (I can chase the thread link if needed.) I don't know if that is helpful but with some employers they are SO scared of the HO that even if you can produce valid proof of right to work (and I could!) they will not except anything but a current BRP.
Good luck!

I should add that I did ask my employer to use the checking service and they claimed that it did not give them sufficient proof! It would be great to know if your daughter was able to get them to try it and if it is successful. Will watch this space for updates.

Thank you.
I rang the HO today for advice and they said my daughter needs to wait for the letter acknowledging the application that will include the case ID. Apparently this should suffice. I won't hold my breath. The irony is of course that my daughter's lost income will probably amount to or exceed the premium service fee. It really is ridiculous and the govt should hang its head in shame at the angst it causes because of bureaucratic incompetence.

Good luck!
(Most days I suspect the government is purposely making it all difficult because it reduces immigration, just on the difficulty alone... and admittedly when they decided to make the BRP the "be all end all" of proof of right to work, they never made a law or rule or regulation that applied to help anyone already here who didn't have one and didn't know. Really we all should have had a grace period. And they make more ££ out of it too, of course. But just ask benefit claimants or the disabled what they think of this government... they aren't about helping people, that's for sure.)

I just noticed that they've updated the BRP(RC) form to ver 09 effective 8th September 2017.
So please be aware of this if you, like me, filled in the form a while ago.

I was just about to send off my son's renewal application which I'd printed off and filled in some time ago and saw the new form. I'll have to print this off and fill the new one in - looks very much the same to me.

My daughter's application was posted on the 15th Sept and I had no idea there was a new form then. I do hope they accept it. They've taken my money and still yet to receive and email acknowledgment. Meanwhile, she is still unable to work.

Hi redstrat,

A couple of notes from my own experience & someone else's:
1. I once filled in an online form for a student visa, the UKVI changed the form either later that day or the next and since my application was received after the change of form, they rejected it. (I won't explain the ensuing nightmare, but can say that when I was later able to compare the two forms they were absolutely identical except the OLD form had about 1-2 pages more of questions not included on the newer form. Bizarre!)

2. In my own BRP thread from 2015 someone had a similar issue and got their MP involved who managed to get the HO to confirm to the employer that they could legally work while awaiting the BRP. I think this should take you there (post is by "ukgirl") - general-uk-immigration-forum/biometric- ... l#p1262246

Good luck with all/both!

Thanks Chickpea, appreciate the information. I'll be sure to let you know what happens. If they reject the form I'll scream. I've just re-filled in my son's one and the questions are precisely the same but there is more information about exemptions from fees for certain categories such as refugees.

Hello everyone!

Could anyone please confirm/deny whether the the applicant himself/herself has to be physically present when the BRP RC is delivered? Few pages ago fellow forum member says that the BRP RC is sent through regular post so that not even a signature is needed , but this was on 2016 so I'm not sure whether the practice has changed. I sent an email to UKVI on this before but they just referred me back to the guidance notes, which of course don't contain info about this. All after charging me 5 quids for merely sending an email!

Thank you and I wish anyone could share his/her experience here :D !

Hello everyone, I’m currently holding Tier 5 work visa and recently lost my wallet including BRP when I was overseas traveling. For some reason I took pictures of my BRP a month before the incident happened and that saved me from a lot of trouble trying to get back into UK without the physical BRP afterwards.
Soon after I left Uk for couple weeks for work (I have not submit my brp replacement RC at this point as the time frame was too short) I came back once more and told the border control officer about my situation and he kindly let me through and stress that I need to get the replacement done ASAP. It’s really difficult to tell this was a safe idea and I had to bare all risk as it was not stated anywhere that it’s actually ok not to have a replacement BRP when u travel. So I submitted my BRP replacement RC (dated 8th sept this is the latest one) shortly after my return , see following :

Application sent by post : 17-10-17
Application received in Durham : 18-10-17
Payment taken by HO : 20-10-17
Still waiting... :?:

At this point I understand from previous posts that I should be expecting to receive HO letter asking me to enroll my biometrics at their designated post office am I right ? And within this letter will I be receiving my case number also ? Is there any chance the HO will be sending emails instead?

Before submitting this application I called the HO and the person told me 8 weeks processing time is the max it would take, she stressed that three times and I trusted her word and went for post. I’m really counting on 8 weeks as I’m leaving immediately after 8 weeks back home for both my sisters’ weddings. I have not bought my flights yet and I’m worried sick :? after reading all previous posts that some took up to 3weeks to receive biometrics letter and 5months just to receive the BRP. Are we suppose to just sit in UK and make no plans while waiting for this BRP to (hopefully) arrive?

I’m writing to ask if anyone has experience here and knows what to do next if I wish to withdraw my post application and proceed with premium service Centre application in person in London. I am still in possession of my passport and I could gather the documents I have sent (just not the originals), do I pay first to get an appointment done or could I just go to the Centre and ask for their advice before proceeding?

If someone could please point me at a clear direction that would be greatly appreciated !!! :(

Hi There,

Any update on your application?

I applied for new BRP card (name change application: 02nd of October)

My biometric was done on 16th of October.

I need to travel back home due to an emergency and I requested HO to return my documents last Thursday. I am aware that HO may take up 10 days to return my documents however I am in a situation where I cannot wait until next week. Has anyone experienced similar issue and can you please share your experience?
Any direct phone numbers to contact? Many thanks for your time in advance.

As i have some problems regarding that i did provide the police refrence number, my photographs, national insurance number, council tax, NHS letter, bank letter, and the letter that they gave me at the time of brp collection. Is that ok? I am on my spouse visa and my brp was lost few days ago i just got my brp at june 2017.

Unfortunately, two of my kids' BRP(RC) renewals took just over 4 months this year. I have two other kids whose applications are in progress. Their letter states in may take up to 6 months. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi everyone, received my brp replacement few days ago.
Thought it would be useful since a lot of posts are outdated now, my brp was stolen this summer in Barcelona, before entering the uk I applied for one entry brp replacement visa.
I hold tier 4 visa and my brp is leave to remain, if you have leave to remain it takes up to 8 weeks , but if it’s indefinite leave to remain in takes up to 6 months.

I send my form, documents on 2d of October : photos of stolen brp, police report, police certificate(original), copy of passport, old uk visas and one entry brp replacement visa, confirmation of study from uni, payment of tuition fees, rental agreement.
Home office received it next day 3.10
Payment taken 5.10
Biometric letter (actual paper letter) received on 18.10, did them the same day
Received documents and approval letter 27.11, dated 24.11
Brp received 28.11
So it took them 8 weeks and one day.

I called them on this number ‭0300 123 2412( visas and immigration ,it’s free) ‬ then pressed 3, they aren’t really helpful but just in case someone’s need it.

Received documents and brp in separate letters, documents were send by Royal Mail signed and brp was send with dx delivery next day, on approval letter it says I personally need to sign and show my passport, but in reality my flat mate just signed it with no problem.

Hope it helps somebody and good luck all!

Good news, my daughter's BRP arrived.

Application mid to late September 2017.
Home Office email with Case ID was sent October 2nd 2017.
New BRP card arrived 15th December 2017 (followed by other docs the next day).

So about 3 months in all. This is a month's improvement on my other kids' applications earlier this year. One still outstanding.

Hey everyone,

I have a relatively strange question, if anyone is in the know. I applied for BRP TOC (new last name) on october 24th. Now, I had received a letter several days ago asking to send the original of my BRP. I stupidly enough did that right away however i have an American visa to apply for in a couple weeks. Anyone has experience of such letter here?

Really dying to get that card already.
