Foreign Births Registration - My Journey Timeline

To help other gauge the current timeline, I enclose below my journey. I applied for FBR based on my grandmother being born in The Republic of Ireland. In January 2023 my official witness was contacted and failed due to no fault of IrelandGov or myself, I had to resubmit my application with a new witness but under the same application number. I also moved house during to process so submitted additional proof of address documents in the January 2023 resubmission.

FBR Application paperwork sent: 18-May-2023
FBR Application paperwork received: 25-May-2023

FBR Additional documents sent: 26-Jan-2024
FBR Additional documents received: 31-Jan-2024

FBR Request for address email: 7-Aug-2024
~5 weeks
FBR Congratulations email: 10-Sep-2024

FBR Certificate receipt: 16-Sep-2024

Latest. Certificate arrived within a week of getting the Congrats email, so now off to apply for passport.

Do they still require you to swear an oath of fidelity in person or can it be done remotely? Not that it is a problem as I want to see where my family lived in Dublin. So a nice wee city break for me and my missus.

For FBR it doesn't happen. It's only for ones gettign their cert via naturalization (in this case you do it at a ceremony).

You can just apply for a passport by post now.

No oaths for citizenship by descent. That's for naturalized citizenship. Straight to dfa,ie / Just click Passport Online and follow the choices. You'll need #s from FBR certificate & a digital passport photo to complete application
