re-entry in UK while on curtailment period

Hi,
Could anyone please advice me on the following situation.
I am on tier-2 ICT visa valid till Apr 2013. My employer is asking me to travel back to India next week and is going to ask UKBA for the curtailment of visa.
Can I enter UK within that curtailment period and apply for my switch to Tier-2 General visa with new employer?
How can I check what's the curtailment period UKBA has decided after I leaving the country?
I know they will send a mail notification to registered address, but thats UK address and I will not have any access to this once I leave UK. How can I check with UKBA from outside UK?
I would appreciate it if you could take some time out and read this and can advise.
